Gas Reduction Fired Cobalt Millstone Vase

As an adjunct at a local university, I get the opportunity to try new things as I teach. Some of my demonstration pieces are just too nice to wad up and recycle. I decided to try something tricky and it turned out pretty well. I pierced a tall four-inch diameter cylinder just below the top with a shorter three-inch diameter cylinder and the millstone series was born. This slightly shorter piece served as my encore the following year.

High fired gas reduction pottery is functional and can be used to hold food or liquid. These pieces are oven, dishwasher and microwave safe.
